The Story of Handala

Handala is a cartoon character created by Palestinian political cartoonist Naji al-Ali - a Palestinian cartoonist and political commentator - in the late 1960s. Handala is depicted as a barefoot, ragged refugee child with his back turned to the viewer, symbolising the Palestinian struggle for independence.

His face is never shown, representing the anonymity and universality of the Palestinian struggle. The character's posture and body language convey a sense of determination and defiance, as if he is ready to face any challenge that comes his way.

Throughout the years, Handala has become a beloved and iconic figure in Palestinian culture and a symbol of Palestinian resistance and resilience. His cartoons have appeared in newspapers and magazines all over the world, and he has become a rallying cry for the Palestinian cause.

Despite the passage of time, Handala remains as relevant as ever, as the Palestinian struggle for freedom and justice continues. Through his enduring presence and enduring message, Handala serves as a powerful reminder of the Palestinian people's struggle and a call to action for those who seek to support their cause.
